Increase In Coyote Sightings Reported In Bloomington
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police in Bloomington are warning residents about an increase in coyotes sighted in parts of the Twin Cities suburb.
The police department has sent letters warning people about the increase over the last few weeks.
Springtime is when coyotes have their litters of pups and consequently need to find more food. That can cause them to venture into places they normally wouldn't and become more aggressive.
The Department of Natural Resources recommends keeping your pets inside and securing your garbage bins and bird feeders.
While a coyote may mistake your cat or dog for a meal, attacks on humans are extremely rare. There are no documented cases in Minnesota.
If a coyote approaches you, the DNR says waving your arms and shouting at it should scare it away.
