Coronavirus In Minnesota: MDH Reports 737 More COVID-19 Cases And 3 Deaths

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Health has announced 737 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths Sunday.

The additional cases bring the state's total positive cases to 46,204, with 40,001 no longer needing isolation.

Currently, the state's positivity rate sits at 5% as of July 8. This means that of the thousands of tests that were processed over the last week, 5% were positive based on the seven-day rolling average.

As of Sunday, 258 people in Minnesota hospitals are battling the disease, with 120 people in intensive care. In the last month, hospitalizations have been trending downward.

The state's death toll is now 1,541. The majority of the deaths have occurred in long-term care facilities.

Testing has now breached over 853,000 overall in the state. About 16,800 were completed in the last 24 hours. The state has the capacity to process 20,000 tests a day.

For most people, COVID-19 symptoms are mild, such as fever and coughing. However, the disease, which attacks the lungs, can be deadly to the elderly and those with underlying issues.
