Suspect In Jordan Church Assault Apprehended

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in the town of Jordan say a man suspected of hitting his significant other in the head with a gun at a church has been apprehended.

Authorities announced Sunday afternoon that 32-year-old Johnathon Herring was in custody. Police had been searching for him following the domestic assault incident Saturday night at Hope Lutheran Church.

Police said Herring fled town in a stolen Volkswagen Cabrio following the incident. Officials asked the public Sunday to call 911 if they spotted him or the car.

The victim in the assault suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Initially, there were reports that shots had been fired at the church. Those were unsubstantiated, police say.
