Consumer Reports Releases Top Cars For 2014

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Consumer Reports released its list of top cars for 2014. Dozens of cars are tested at the Consumer Reports Auto Center and rated on a scale of 0 to 100.

This year, the spotlight is shining bright on the Tesla Model "S" -- the first electric car to win best overall.

Consumer Reports says the car is luxurious, safe and has a 17-inch control panel that allows you to search the internet.

"This car received a 99 performance rating," said Jon Linkov, of Consumer Reports. "It's the highest score we ever had."

The Tesla seats a total of seven passengers and gets more than 225 miles per charge. That's more than any other electric car on the market.

But it doesn't come cheap. It's currently $89,000.

Several other vehicles received top marks in different categories.

The Subaru Impreza won best compact car, the Audi A6 is the best luxury car and for the 11th straight year, Toyota's Hybrid Prius captured the title of best green car.
