Republicans Endorse Tom Emmer As Congress Candidate

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Republicans made their choice of who should take Michele Bachmann's seat in Congress Saturday.

Tom Emmer is a former state lawmaker who narrowly lost the governor's race to Mark Dayton in 2010.

He celebrated his party's endorsement for Congress Saturday in Monticello, Minn. getting 76 percent of the vote.

"This District has a tradition and an expectation of selfless servant leaders and I plan on carrying on in that tradition," Emmer said.

Emmer hopes to succeed Congresswoman Bachmann in November's election.

However, first he'll face two other Republican candidates this August.

Former state lawmaker Phil Krinkie and Anoka County Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah are running against Emmer in the August primary.
