Condition Of Boy, 12, Hit By Lightning In Duluth Improves

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Hospital officials say the condition of a 12-year-old boy struck by lightning on a Duluth golf course has improved.

The boy was identified by Duluth police Monday as Nathan Burke. Police say he was critically injured when he was hit by lightning at the Enger Park Golf Course on Sunday afternoon as a thunderstorm went over the city.

A local TV station reports that Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth said the boy's condition had been upgraded to fair by Monday afternoon.

Two other people were also struck by lightning in St. Louis County on Sunday. Fifty-one-year-old Jay Mott of Virginia and his 4-year-old daughter were hit by lightning while at a baseball game in Cherry Township. The Star Tribune reports Mott remained in critical condition Monday, while his daughter was in fair condition.
