Como's Baby Zebra Named After Long-Time Volunteer

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Como Park Zoo & Conservatory's baby Zebra now has a name.

As a tribute to long-time zoo volunteer and Korean War veteran Frank Krmpotich, the zebra is named "Krump."

Krmpotich volunteered for Como for 21 years. He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 84 on Sept. 14.

Como officials said Krmpotich was always early for his shift and would always bring a bag of Pearson Mints, which he would share with everyone.

"Frank had the nickname 'Krump' as long as I've known him, and that's since third grade," Connie Krmpotich, Frank's wife, said.

When told Como had named the baby zebra "Krump," Connie said, "That's fantastic, the kids will just love it."

The male baby zebra was born at the zoo on Sept. 3. He was the second baby born in a two month time space.

Krump can be seen by the public in the Zebra and Kudu Exhibit all year long.
