Cologne Man, 81, Killed In Carver County Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An 81-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday in Carver County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 6:50 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 284 and County Road 153 in Benton Township. When officers arrived, A 1999 Honda Accord was headed southbound on Highway 284 when a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country was entering the intersection from County Road 153. The Chrysler was broadsided on the driver's side upon entering the intersection.

The driver of the Chrysler, identified by the State Patrol as 81-year-old Godfrey H. Widmer of Cologne, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and died later that night. A 28-year-old man driving the Honda Accord suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled Widmer died of blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol said what led up to the crash is still under investigation with assistance from the State Patrol.
