A body found in northern Minnesota is "believed to be" a missing 64-year-old man, the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office said on Monday, eight days after the man's partner was found dead.

Volunteer searchers found the body north of Aitkin, Minnesota, following an "extensive foot and air search" that included high definition cameras collecting over 11,000 images.

The body has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

On June 29, the sheriff's office located an SUV owned by the man in a remote, wooded area around two miles north of Aitkin. A woman, later identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office as his 62-year-old partner, was found near the SUV.

Officials initially reported the man and woman were last seen in Cloquet, Minnesota, on May 25, but investigators later learned they were at a gas station near McGregor on May 26.
