Christmas Day Bringing Late Snow To Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The end of Christmas day will bring something many Minnesotans have missed this holiday season: snow.

A system moving in from the Dakotas on Friday threatens to dump a few inches of snow on a large swath of central Minnesota.

Forecaster Kylie Bearse says the Twin Cities looks to see around 3 inches of snow after the flakes start falling overnight. Holiday travelers should prepare for messy roads on Saturday.

Western Minnesota, near Montevideo, is expected to get the most snow, as the area will be under a winter storm warning.

"Not only will we have pretty heavy snow coming down at times, but blowing snow," Bearse said.

The area could see up to 8 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 35 mph.

The snow is expected to fall heaviest between 7 a.m. and noon, with the flakes tapering off into the afternoon.

The rest of the weekend looks chilly, with Sunday's highs barely getting out of the teens. The start of next week also looks cold.

So long, mild December weather!
