Children's Theatre Co. Announces 50th Anniversary Season

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Children's Theatre Co. has announced its 50th anniversary season.

Among the shows are "The Jungle Book," ''The Wizard of Oz" and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Musical."

The Tony Award-winning Minneapolis-based theater kicks off the new season on Sept. 1 with "Akeelah and the Bee," based on the movie about a young girl trying to make it to the National Spelling Bee.

Other shows include "The Frog Bride," based on a classic Russian folk tale; a theatrical adaptation of "The Snowy Day" and other stories by Ezra Jack Keats; and "Animal Dance," featuring performance artist Ann Carlson in a show developed for preschoolers.

Subscriptions go on sale Tuesday. CTC celebrates its 50th anniversary on Aug. 9 with a free "season opener" event at Target Field.
