Children's Minnesota Opens Clinic For Transgender Youth

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A pediatric health system in Minnesota is opening a new clinic meant to provide comprehensive care for youth who identify as transgender or gender-diverse.

Children's Minnesota officials announced Tuesday that the clinic will provide an array of services, including hormone treatment and a variety of counseling, advice and psychological care.

Dr. Angela Kate Goepferd, the clinic's medical director, tells the Star Tribune that while almost 3 percent of Minnesota's high school students identify as gender diverse, many children don't know where to turn when they first have questions about gender and identity.

The clinic is scheduling appointments and will open to patients on April 22.

Family Tree Clinic in St. Paul created a clinic and hormone therapy program in 2015 for transgender and gender identity patients. They now make up 28 percent of the clinic's practice.
