Boy, 15, Hit By School Bus In St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- A teenager is in critical condition after being struck Thursday morning by a school bus in St. Paul.

It happened at the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Dale Street just after 7 a.m.

St. Paul police said the school bus, operated by Hmong American Partnership, was heading west on Maryland Avenue before making a left turn onto Dale Street.

The 50-year-old driver, police said, never saw the 15-year-old Isaac Clemens Schneider in the crosswalk.

"He had blood on his face, throw up on the front of his mouth," Rick Hansen, who came to help the boy, said. "[He] wasn't very coherent."

Police said the Schneider is a student at Como Park Senior High School. A parent told WCCO he's on the robotics team.

St. Paul Police public information officer Sgt. Mike Ernster said the accident marks close to 50 pedestrians that have been struck by vehicles in the city so far this year.

"Everybody needs to pay better attention to the rules of the road," Ernster said.

Authorities said the bus driver did not appear to be impaired and is cooperating with the investigation.

The Schneider is in critical condition at Regions Hospital.

"It was a scary experience," Hansen said. "It could be anybody's kid."
