Teen Dies In St. Paul Police Chase

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 15-year-old boy is dead after a police chase ended Wednesday morning with a vehicle smashing into a building just south of downtown St. Paul.

St. Paul Police say the crash happened at about 12:15 a.m., about 15 minutes after the chase began. Officers initiated a pursuit of a vehicle which had recently been reported stolen near the 2000 block of Suburban Avenue.

The vehicle was heading south on Robert Street when it lost control near Wood Street, crashed into Captain Ken's Beans Factory and ended up in the northbound lanes of Robert Street.

The driver of the vehicle, John McAfee, was taken to Regions Hospital where he later died. Authorities say no other vehicles or people were involved in the crash.

A Ramsey County official said the victim was housed at Boys Totem Town at the time of the incident. He had been there since Nov. 4.

Police say the officers involved have been place on administrative leave, which is the department's policy.
