Celebrate Earth Day With 50 Ways To Improve The Environment

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Twin Cities company is offering 50 ways to improve the environment.

Alison Fairbanks owns Promise 50, a website designed to help people find ways to save the planet. She said there are a lot of people who already recycle, but there's more to do, like bringing reusable bags to the grocery store.

Fairbanks said everyone carries around water bottles, but she carries even more.

"I've started carrying a fork and spoon, so I don't have to use the plastic ones," Fairbanks said.

She also suggested you try to walk, bike or take the bus to work.

"When we do that, we tend to shop at our local retailers," she said.

In terms of saving energy at home, there are a number of ways to do that. She said you can start with your dishwasher.

"A lot of models have an air dry setting. Be sure to use that setting. It makes a big difference," she said.

Fairbanks said when you brush your teeth you can turn the water off, and when you wash your hands, she says just turn the water on a little bit.

"We see weather change. It's become obvious that climate change is a real thing," she said.

She believes if more people make small changes, it can make a difference.
