Catholic Hospital Asked To Cut Ties With Doctor
LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — A La Crosse couple says they want a local Catholic hospital to sever ties with a doctor who they say performs abortions.
Leif and Karen Arvidson say Dr. Carl Rose advised them of the option of an abortion at a visit to Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse in 2012. Karen Arvidson also says she was told later she could have an abortion at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Franciscan Healthcare spokesman Rick Thiesse said Tuesday that Rose doesn't do abortions there.
The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, didn't directly respond to an inquiry about whether Rose performs abortions there.
Diocese of La Crosse guidelines say doctors cannot provide abortion services. Spokesman Jack Felsheim says there's no evidence that Rose violated those guidelines.
A message left at a home number listed in Rose's name was not immediately returned Tuesday.
