Burnsville Teen Injured In Dakota Co. Crash In Critical, Stable Condition
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One of the Burnsville teens injured in a rollover crash in Dakota Co. last week is making strides in his recovery, according to his CaringBridge page.
Cole Borchardt is in critical, but stable, condition at Regions Hospital.
Borchardt was one of three boys injured in a rollover crash that killed a fourth passenger, 17-year-old Ty Alyea.
The accident occurred Wednesday evening in Dakota Co.
The SUV Borchardt and Alyea were riding in rolled over on Highway 52 near Coates, Minn.
Both boys were riding in the rear seat and were ejected from the vehicle. State Patrol says neither was wearing their seat belts.
According to his CaringBridge page, when Borchardt arrived at Regions Hospital he had emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.
Since then, Borchardt has had three more surgeries to relieve pressure and stop internal bleeding.
Borchardt also had his spleen and one kidney removed in the process.
While still in critical condition, Borchardt is now stable.
"At this point, [doctors] are not seeing any negative changes or worsening of his condition," Lisa Missling said on the CaringBridge page.
Doctors have said that it is still too soon for any long-term prognosis regarding Borchadt's brain injury.
The State patrol is still investigating the crash and what may have caused the driver to lose control.
