Brooklyn Park Police Investigating Man's Death As Suspicious

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in Brooklyn Park say they are investigating a suspicious death following a house fire late last month in which a 64-year-old man's body was found.

According to a search warrant seeking medical records for the homeowner/victim, the fire happened in the early morning hours of April 29 in a home on the 1300 block of 84th Court North.

Investigators said there were signs of forced entry on the front door and that the fire started near there.

After the flames were extinguished, investigators found the body of Howard Sandeen in rubble on the home's second floor. The homeowner had a cut on his throat and lacerations consistent with defensive wounds on his body.

The medical examiner noted, however, that the wounds were positioned in such a way that they could have been self-inflicted. Due to the fire damage in the home, it was impossible to tell where or when Sandeen suffered the lacerations.

The search warrant for Sandeen's medical records was sought in order to get insight into whether the man had injured himself or was assaulted.
