Development Opens In Area Once Devastated By Tornado

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A new housing and business development is now open in the very spot that was destroyed by a tornado more than five years ago.

Broadway Flats opened its doors to residents and shoppers Friday in north Minneapolis.

The development features 103 rental units, underground parking, a business center and a community room.

The new housing and retail project is located at Penn Avenue North and West Broadway.

The area was hard hit by a tornado that tore through Minneapolis in 2011. One person was killed that day, and two others were seriously hurt.

Rent starts at $600 for studios and goes up to $1500 for larger two bedroom units.
