Boyd, Rau Earn Big Ten Honors For Gopher Hockey

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Travis Boyd and Kyle Rau of the Gopher men's hockey team earned Big Ten honors as the first and second stars of the week, the Big Ten announced Tuesday.

Minnesota, hosting the Mariucci Classic last weekend, earned a split after losing to Colgate in a shootout Friday night and beating RPI 6-2 Saturday night. The Gophers (13-2-2) maintained the No. 1 ranking in the country after the weekend split.

Boyd earned the league's No. 1 star award after recording four points over the two games. Boyd scored a goal in each game of the tournament.

Rau recorded three points over the weekend, including his 100th career point. That came on an assist on Boyd's goal in Friday's game. Rau also scored twice and now has 102 points in 98 career games.

The Gophers have earned awards from the Big Ten Conference in every week of the regular season so far. Minnesota will travel to Penn State for a Sunday-Monday series next weekend.
