Boiler Malfunction Causes Explosion In Fridley Apartment

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A boiler malfunction lead to an explosion at a Fridley apartment building early Tuesday morning.

According to officials, around 3:30 a.m. a minor explosion occurred in the 5900 block of 2 ½ Street NE.

The explosion caused a window to shatter, but no other major damage was reported.

One person was injured when they stepped on the glass from the broken window, but the injuries were non-life threatening.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross are helping four people who lived in the apartment.

The gas company is currently looking into a gas smell in the area.

The incident is currently under investigation.
