Body Recovered After Canoe Overturns On North Metro Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One person died Sunday after a canoe with three people aboard tipped on a lake in the north Twin Cities metro, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded at about 11:46 a.m. after receiving a report that a canoe had overturned on Twin Lake in Little Canada. One of the men in the canoe went under the water and didn't resurface.

Residents in the area who witnessed the incident rushed to the scene to rescue the other two men. When officers arrived to the scene on the 200 block of Twin Lake Trail, they began a search and rescue with boats and divers from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Dive Team.

Authorities said at about 4 p.m., they recovered a body from the lake. It was sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office to be identified and determine a cause of death.

The incident remains under investigation.
