Body Of Coon Rapids Man Recovered From St. Croix River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The body of a 21-year-old Coon Rapids man has been recovered five days after he jumped into the St. Croix River to try to save his nephew.

According to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office, crews found the body of Tou Hu Vang Friday at 9:51 a.m. just south of the Osceola Landing.

Vang jumped into the river Sunday afternoon to save his 11-year-old nephew, Calvin Yang, who had slipped and fell into the river near Taylors Falls while fishing. Yang was saved by a Good Samaritan and is OK.

Vang's family says he was a fisherman and outdoorsman, and had just completed his first semester in college. He was going to marry his fiancé in September.

The sheriff says the St. Croix River is dangerous and is moving three times faster than normal due to snow melt and recent rains.
