Bloomington H.S. Lacrosse Teams Put Away Rivalry To Help Injured Fmr. Player

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- In the world of sports, many can get carried away with all the competitiveness. But Tuesday night in Bloomington, a lacrosse game with a big rivalry put all that aside to help a young man who is recovering from a tragic accident.

After finishing the game Tuesday, the Jefferson and Kennedy high school teams intermixed and took a picture together. They also had a fundraiser, which included a pie-in-the-face contest, for former Jefferson Jaguar Charlie Straus.

WCCO Radio's Dave Lee was at the game.

"They all got together for one of their own and put all this heated rivalry stuff aside," Lee said. "At the end, all you saw was smiles from everybody trying to achieve and do the right thing. I was so impressed with that last night."

Straus was seriously injured when he fell while rollerblading and was subsequently run over by a vehicle. He now faces a long recovery.
