Police Investigating After Man, 19, Found Dead In Bloomington Home

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Bloomington police are investigating a shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead inside his own apartment.

The shooting occurred at the Hampshire Hill Apartment complex near Old Shakopee Road, around 10:45 p.m. Thursday. Neighbors said they heard what sounded like a struggle inside the second floor apartment before the victim was shot.

"There was a cop that came up and said we need you to go inside. There's been a shooting," said neighbor Amanda Quistad.

It was curiosity that got Quistad to venture outside of her apartment last night. She saw police officers everywhere- and that's when she learned a neighbor had been shot and killed.

"What I found out on Facebook was, there was a robbery gone bad," Quistad said. "It makes me hesitant walking through the parking lot at night."

Police said the man died from a gunshot wound after likely fighting with his killer. He was found dead inside his bedroom.

"There were sounds of a struggle and things knocked over and tipped over inside the apartment," Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said. "As for the original reason for it, at this point in time that's not known."

On police scanner audio, officers are heard saying they are looking for several people -- and the victim's girlfriend may have been the one who contacted police.

Investigators are working on several leads but believe the man was targeted, and that there isn't a threat to the public.

"We are still following up with witnesses and information we got to determine how many people we are looking for. I'm not sure at this point," Potts said.

Chief Potts did say that they don't get many calls to Hampshire Hill Apartments, and that it's a relatively quiet complex. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the first homicide in Bloomington this year, and only the second one in the past two years.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Bloomington police at 952-563-4900.
