Blooming Prairie Couple Facing Over 10 Charges For Failing To File Income Tax Returns

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Blooming Prairie couple has been charged with over 10 tax-related crimes, according to the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

Michael Ray and Sheridan Jo Tapp have both been charged with three counts of failing to file income tax returns, three counts of failing to pay income tax and five counts of failure to remit sales and use tax.

According to the criminal complaint, the Tapps attempted to evade income tax laws by not filing tax returns for 2009 and 2010.

The Tapps, who also own a tanning salon called "Tapp the Sun," also didn't remit sales tax that their business earned between December 2009 and April 2012.

Collectively, the Tapps own more than $29,000 in income tax and more than $45,000 in salex tax, penalties and interest.

If found guilty both Michael Ray and Sheridan Jo face a maximum of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both for each felony charge, and one year in prison, a $3,000 fine or both for each misdemeanor charge.
