MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minneapolis group of #BlackLivesMatter says it's planning a protest Wednesday night after recent events in Baltimore.

The event will be at 5:30 p.m. at Gold Medal Park, which is near the Guthrie Theater. A Twitter post promoting the event calls for Minnesotans to "Rise Up and Shut It Down" with Baltimore.

It's being done in solidarity with the recent protests in Baltimore, Md., after the Monday funeral of Freddie Gray. He died on April 19, a week after being taken into custody by the Baltimore Police Department for possession of a switchblade.

While in custody, he suffered a spinal cord injury and went into a coma. After his funeral Monday, there were protests and riots across the city of Baltimore. The National Guard has been called in and a curfew has been established in the city.

The events forced the Baltimore Orioles to postpone their game Monday against the Chicago White Sox at Camden Yards. Tuesday's game was also postponed, and the Baltimore Ravens canceled their NFL Draft party, originally planned for Thursday night.

The #BlackLivesMatter Minneapolis group has held similar events in the past in response to alleged police brutality across the country. They marched up I-35W into Minneapolis and also held a rally at the Mall of America on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the holiday season.
