Black Lives Matter Plans To Close Light Rail During Vikings Opener
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – The St. Paul chapter of the group Black Lives Matter plans to protest police brutality on Sunday by holding up light-rail service on the day of the Minnesota Vikings home opener.
In a Facebook event posting, the group says the protest will be held just south of the light-rail station at University Avenue and Lexington Parkway.
"Sunday … is the Minnesota Vikings' home opener, big money day, so what better day to shut the light rail down and disrupt business as usual," the posting reads.
The focus of the protest will be on the alleged police beating of Marcus Abrams, a young man who the group says has autism and is legally blind.
Black Lives Matter says Metro Transit Police beat Abrams on Aug. 31 so severely that he suffered seizures.
The group is demanding that officers be fired.
