Black Lives Matter Plans Protest Outside Governor's Residence
ST. PAUL , Minn. (WCCO) -- The group Black Lives Matter is going to Summit Avenue in St. Paul on Tuesday to show displeasure with Gov. Mark Dayton's comment on the weekend protest at the Minnesota State Fair.
The group said they were not happy that the governor called the demonstration "inappropriate."
Mica Grimm, an activist with the group, said the protest showed community togetherness.
"This is the real Minnesota Get-Together," Grimm said.
The group claims the fair does not have enough minority vendors.
But fair general manager Jerry Hammer said they don't know the ethnicity of every vendor, because listing it is not allowed under federal law.
"We can't do that," Hammer said. "The only thing that holds up in court is that everybody be treated the same. You have to apply the same standards to everybody."
There were no arrests and no one was hurt Saturday during a demonstration by Black Lives Matter just outside the fairgrounds.
