Birthday Girl Asks For Animal Food To Help Shelter

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Rather than ask for the latest gadgets or clothes for her birthday, a Sioux Falls girl put animal food on her list.

Taylor Spomer can't have any pets herself because she's allergic, but that didn't stop her from helping dogs and cats in need. So for her 12th birthday she put out the word to family and friends that she wanted donations for an animal shelter.

KSFY-TV reports the effort yielded more than 200 pounds of cat, dog and bird food that Taylor delivered to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

She says workers at the shelter were overjoyed with the gift.
