Bill Would Boost Marketing Of Agriculture Exports To Cuba
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Talk of a new Minnesota trade mission to Cuba is in the air.
The House Agriculture Finance Committee kept a bill in the mix Tuesday that would designate $100,000 to promote agriculture exports to Cuba. Its sponsor says half of that could defray costs from a state trade trip to the island nation. Then-Gov. Jesse Ventura led a delegation there in 2002.
The goal of the bipartisan bill is to identify and publicize emerging opportunities for Minnesota producers interested in shipping goods to Cuba.
In December, U.S. officials announced steps to begin normalizing relations with the communist island nation after decades of hostility. It triggered high expectations that an eased trade embargo was not far off. But diplomatic talks between the two governments have moved at a measured pace.
