Benton Co. Man Struck & Killed By Vehicle After Falling From Bike

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 61-year-old cyclist is dead after an incident in Sauk Rapids Wednesday afternoon, according to Sauk Rapids police.

According to police, officers responded at 5:09 p.m. Wednesday to the report of a cyclist that had been struck by a vehicle on North Benton Drive under the Minnesota Highway 15 Bridge.

An investigation indicates that the Benton County resident was riding his bike southbound along the right lane of the roadway when he fell in the road way. Motorists attempted to avoid him, but a vehicle driven by a 64-year-old St. Cloud resident struck the cyclist, killing him.

The Benton County Medical Examiner is determining whether there were any underlying medical issues with the victim.

The investigation is ongoing and identities are not being released at this time.
