'Beer Census' Samples Suds In Minneapolis, Maplewood

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - It's a job that two men from North Carolina consider themselves lucky to have.

They're traveling all over the country collecting data to create a "Beer Census."

It's for an app they're creating called "Next Glass" that can predict what wine and beer drinkers will enjoy without having to try a sip.

On Saturday, they visited Heritage Liquor in Maplewood and Zipp's Liquors in Minneapolis.

"The exciting thing about this is it's for everybody--it's for the producers, it's for the vendors, it's for the connoisseurs and it's for the newbies," said Next Glass driver George Taylor. "If you don't know what you want, we can tell you what you'd like based on some of the things you've tried."

Taylor and his partner, Stephen Pond, hope the journey across the country will shine the light on local craft breweries.

The app should be available by the end of the year for both Apple and Android phones
