Acres Of Bee, Butterfly Habitat Unveiled

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis-based company is giving some bugs a much-needed boost.

Xcel Energy is dedicating seven acres of land to monarch butterflies, honey bees and other pollinators.

Community leaders and students in Monticello planted milkweed and other nectar-producing plants Thursday near Xcel's First Lake Substation.

Pollinators are important to the environment and food production, but they are on the path toward extinction.

This new habitat is part of a nation-wide effort to strengthen the population.
