Banham Sets Scoring Record, Gophers Fall To Auburn

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Senior guard Rachel Banham scored 29 points to become the new all-time leading scorer Saturday, but the University of Minnesota women's basketball team lost to Auburn 81-79 in overtime at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.

The loss drops the Gophers to 4-1 on the season. Banham passed Lindsay Whalen's program record of 2,285 points, which she scored from 2000 to 2004. She had a chance to set the record last year before the season ended early after she tore her ACL.

Banham scored on a 3-pointer from the top of the key to become the Gophers' new all-time leading scorer. Minnesota trailed by as many as 15 points before sending the game to overtime, tied 71-71.

The Gophers travel to Duke on Thursday to play in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Their next home game is Dec. 6 against Towson.
