Bachmann Tweet Links Deadly S.C. Floods To U.S. Relationship With Israel

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) – Former Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann shared a theory on Twitter for why historic and deadly rains have flooded South Carolina.

Over the weekend, the former Republican lawmaker and presidential candidate posted, saying: "US turns its back on Israel, disasters following."

Below that statement was a link to a British tabloid story on the storms that have lashed the East Coast in recent days.

According to meteorologists, Hurricane Joaquin -- although it missed U.S. shores -- funneled a "fire hose" of moisture on South Carolina. The resulting deluge led to 14 deaths, widespread flooding and the destruction of bridges, dams and homes.

Recently, the former congresswoman from Minnesota's 6th District has been critical of the Obama administration's nuclear deal with Iran, a country with the ultimate goal, she says, of destroying Israel.

Bachmann has stated that the controversial deal, which was inked last month, will help bring about the bibical "End Times" and has called for the bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities.

Over the weekend, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that although he's going forward with the nuclear deal, he's looking to keep "Iran's feet to the fire."

He told CNN that he wants to cooperate with President Barack Obama after voicing vigorous opposition to the deal in a speech to Congress in August.
