Police: Baby In Wis. Dies After Father Takes Him Into Pond

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee police say a 3-month-old baby is dead after his father walked into a pond with the infant.

Police say the father had a dispute with the infant's mother when he took the baby from the house and walked into the pond until he was submerged up to his chest around 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

A witness followed the suspect into the water to try to prevent the baby from being hurt. Police also went into the pond to try to rescue the boy. But when officers reached the father, he did not have the baby.

The suspect was taken into custody while other officers searched for the baby. The boy was found unconscious and rushed to the shore, but attempts to revive him failed and he died at the scene.
