Sheriff: Bicyclist Discovers Baby Alligator Near Brainerd

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A bicyclist came across a truly rare sight for Minnesota over the weekend: an alligator walking on the path.

According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, the bicyclist called 911 shortly after noon on Saturday reporting the discovery of the three-foot alligator just south of Brainerd.

After deputies responded, they called a local exotic animal park for help. The owner of Safari North Wildlife Park came out and captured the alligator. That's where it is now.

Authorities are unclear where the alligator came from, but suspect that it was a pet that either escaped or was released.

There were no injuries and the alligator is OK.
