Police Standoff Ends Peacefully In Burnsville

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police said a standoff they were involved in for a about seven hours on Wednesday came to an end with the suspect surrendering to authorities.

According to Burnsville police, officers were called at about 8:59 a.m. to perform a welfare check on male who was reported to be suicidal. The man had barricaded himself inside a residence on the 13900 block of Sunset Lake drive. When officers got to the scene, the man refused to leave the residence and threatened to harm himself as well as others.

Police negotiators spoke with the man for several hours through the phone and text messaging. At about 3:40 p.m., the man exited the house peacefully and was taken into custody.

Authorities said access to the neighborhood where the standoff took place was restored and residents were given an all-clear to return to their homes. The Burnsville Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Eagan and Bloomington Police Department and Burnsville Public Works.
