Authorities Pull Teen's Body From Mississippi River In St. Paul Park
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said they've recovered the body of a 14-year-old boy from the Mississippi River in St. Paul Park after a drowning Sunday night.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office was called at about 5:13 p.m. to Lions Levee Park along the Mississippi River on a report of a drowning. When officers arrived, a witness told police the boy was wading in the water with friends when he went to retrieve a stick. The boy went underwater and disappeared. Authorities from as many as 10 agencies responded to the scene in a search for the boy.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said the boy's body was located and pulled from the river at about 1:30 a.m. The victim has not been identified. Authorities said the current of the Mississippi River is about twice its normal speed due to high water levels because of the recent rain.
