Suspect Arrested In Arson Of St. Paul Church

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – A suspect has turned himself in after a fire caused minor damage at a St. Paul church Friday morning.

Gregory Louis Knox turned himself into police Friday afternoon, St. Paul Police Sgt. Pete Crum said. Witnesses had told police that Knox was the arsonist and police were looking for him.

The St. Paul Fire Department was called at about 7 a.m. to St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church on a report of a fire. The church is located near the area of 7th and Goodhue Streets, just outside of downtown St. Paul.

When crews arrived, there was a fire discovered in the office area of the church. Crews quickly put the fire out, and the church itself suffered no damage in the blaze.

There were no injuries in the fire. St. Paul Police will release more information about the incident when it becomes available.
