Authorities Investigate After Body Found In Burning Car

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Steele County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a body was found inside a burning vehicle over the weekend.

Authorities say they were dispatched to the scene around 9 p.m. Sunday on the 5000 block of County Road 45 South. Upon arrival, crews found a passenger car fully engulfed in flames.

After the Owatonna Fire Department extinguished the fire, a single occupant was found dead inside the vehicle.

Authorities said there were no other individuals involved or injured in the fire.

Witness accounts and additional evidence led officials to believe this was not a homicide.

The identity of the person will not be released until the family is notified.
