Authorities: 2 Iowa Women Jump From 2nd Floor To Escape Apt. Fire

SLOAN, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say two women jumped from second-floor windows to escape an apartment fire in northwest Iowa.

The fire was reported around 9:50 a.m. Tuesday at the Prairie Apartments in Sloan. The unidentified women were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Officials say the fire displaced 15 residents.

Sloan Fire Chief Lee Blanchard says the blaze appears to have spread through the building's attic. The fire cause is being investigated.
