Austin School Teacher Accused Of Sex With Student

AUSTIN, Minn. (AP/WCCO) — A teacher at a Catholic school in Austin has been fired and jailed on suspicion of having sex with a minor student.

Mary Gilles, 28, taught math at Pacelli High School. Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger says she was arrested at home Monday after police were summoned to the school earlier in the day.

The Diocese of Winona, which includes Austin, says Gilles was fired Tuesday. Marsha Stenzel, superintendent of Catholic schools for the diocese, says the Pacelli school administration has been cooperating with law enforcement and immediately reports suspicious activity to police. She says their procedures and protocols resulted in the arrest.

The police chief has declined to say anything about the victim, including age and gender.

The Mower County attorney's office is expected to charge Gilles Wednesday.
