Attempted Robbery Reported By 'U' Bell Museum

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police at the University of Minnesota are warning students and residents of an attempted robbery that was reported late Sunday evening.

The incident happened on Church Street near the Bell Museum of Natural History around 11:45 p.m.

A student said she was walking when a man exited a silver or gray sedan and grabbed her backpack. The student said she resisted while the man tried to force the backpack from her.

She told police that the vehicle's driver tried to block her path by driving up onto the sidewalk, but she managed to escape anyway.

Police said the two suspects fled the area by driving south on Church Street through the pedestrian mall area.

Investigators said there was no description of the driver, but the victim said the man who got out of the vehicle was in his early 20s, standing approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall with short curly hair. He was wearing a gray polo shirt.

Anyone with more information about the incident or suspects is asked to contact university police at 612-624-2677.
