ASG, Home Run Derby Could Be Minnesota's Most Expensive Events Ever

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Before the All-Star Game is even played at Target Field on Tuesday it could set a record.

Demand has been so high ticket prices for both Tuesday's game and Monday's Home Run Derby could set a record for a Minnesota event.

Tickets are going for an average of $675 on websites like Stub Hub and Tickets Now for Tuesday's All Star Game.

The cost to go to the Home Run Derby is about half that.

"It's a once and a life time thing.  We're not going to see all of these legends play on one field too often. I thought I had to do it," Brian Pose said.

Season ticket holders like Pose got early dibs, and paid what now would be considered a steal.

The average for a single game ticket is $675, pricing many baseball fans out.

"We saw the ticket prices and decided not this year," Tim Schatz of Prior Lake said.  "This is great alternative."

The Schatz family got their family of four in to FanFest for a third of what it would cost one standing room only ticket to the game.

"That was the biggest surprise, we thought it would be around $150, $200 bucks, but to see that $300, $325 was not what we were expecting to say the least," Schatz said.

Tickets to the All Star Game and Home Run Derby could end being the two most expensive events ever in Minnesota.

Connor Gregoire with Seat Geek, a ticket search engine out of New York, says the new ball park is likely a big factor in the price.

"Target Field is certainly a big draw for folks in Minneapolis and around the country for folks who are traveling for this," Gregoire said.

While the Schatz family, like a lot of other fans, isn't willing to shuck out the dough, they're not throwing in the towel.

They're crossing their fingers that they will be the lucky ones who win four tickets to Tuesday night's game!

"We entered to win, that'd be great! yeah we'll go! Absolutely," the Schatz family said.

The Lays booth at FanFest is running the contest for those tickets.

The cost to get into FanFest is $35 for adults, kids 12-years-old and under are $30, kids under two are free.

On Monday and Tuesday FanFest is running a special. For those that buy their tickets online, the cost is just $10 to get in.
