Charges Filed In Fatal Shooting Near Downtown Mpls. Parking Ramp

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 27-year-old man has been charged with allegedly shooting a man five times near a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp late last month, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

On Saturday, Jermaine McMahon was arrested in a St. Paul homeless shelter in connection to the killing of Justin Williams on March 27. McMahon now faces a second-degree murder charge.

On the day of the incident, an off-duty officer was working at 1010 Currie Ave. N. around 6:30 a.m. when he heard what sounded like gunshots in a nearby parking ramp.

When he arrived at the ramp, the officer found Williams with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was then taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition, but later died from his injuries.

According to the criminal complaint, McMahon ran up behind Williams and shot the 28-year-old Bloomington man five times. He then fled on a bicycle.

Police say surveillance cameras captured McMahon buying a light rail ticket around the time of the shooting. Images from those cameras were then given to the Minneapolis Police Department and downtown security personnel.

At least one police officer and one security officer recognized McMahon from the surveillance images.

McMahon was arrested a week after the shooting. He will make his first court appearance Tuesday.
