Officials: Student Robbed At Gunpoint Near Macalester College

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Thomas Public Safety issued a security warning after a Macalester College student was robbed at gunpoint Sunday evening.

According to Public Safety, around 8:45 p.m. a Macalester student was walking to her off campus home near Ashland Avenue and Saratoga Street.

When she was walking north of campus, a suspect approached her from behind with a handgun and demanded her purse. She gave the suspect her purse and the suspect fled south on Saratoga Street.

The victim was not hurt.

The suspect was described as a medium-built male standing at roughly 5'10". He had dreadlocks and a black sweatshirt.

St. Thomas officials said patrols have been increased in the area. Anyone with any information is asked to call 911 or Macalester Security at 651-696-6555.
