Aquarium In Mall Of America Getting $2 Million Expansion

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Sea Life Minnesota, the aquarium inside the Mall of America, is getting its biggest expansion since opening.

The aquarium announced Wednesday a $2 million expansion that should be completed by March.

At the heart of the expansion is Stingray Adventure. A press release from the aquarium said guests will get to touch and feed dozens of stingrays housed in a 15,000 gallon touchpool. Children all ages can take part in the exhibit.

Other parts of the expansion include a larger touchpool featuring colorful marine life from the Pacific Northwest, and shipwreck exhibit where guests can learn about sea life and see exhibits in motion through portholes.

The aquarium says it won't close as the expansion is put in place. It also said regular admission guests will, for a limited time, receive a free "comeback" ticket to check out the expansion in May of 2015.
