Apple Valley Woman Gets 90-Day Sentence In Distracted Driving Fatal Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 29-year-old woman who caused a fatal crash when she ran a red light while dialing her phone will spend 90 days in jail, according to the Dakota County Attorney's Office.
On Wednesday afternoon, Amanda Schlachter, of Apple Valley, was sentenced on two felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide or operation, which she pled guilty to earlier this year.
On April 6, 2013, Schlachter was transporting residents of a group home in a Dodge minivan when she ran a red light while dialing her cell phone, and then hit another vehicle at about 2:45 p.m.
The minivan rolled onto its side before hitting another vehicle. Sixty-six-year-old Frank Sundboom, one of Schlachter's passengers, was seriously injured and later died at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Schlachter and three other adults in the minivan survived with serious injuries. One other passenger suffered minor injuries.
